Jakob Two Trees’ Trail of Adventure

I see you standing still and free,

holding strong between two fir trees.

Jakob Two Trees, you say you are,

wandering from the Great Basin westward

where you left one of your tribe

down south in the tropics to thrive.

You ventured over the Sierra-cascade rim,

of granite and rivers you occasionally swim in –

with silver salmon the magical traveler

that bind you and me and this region together.

I see that your kind, and that you often find

–birds of different colors and feathers–

 twirling, and swirling to nest

in houses hanging ‘round your chest!

Unruffled by the kerfuffle of your joyful wake,

–your smiling gaze relays–

“It’s always better to give than to take!”

A chance happening along this Rainier Trail,

you never want to startle or cause one to wail,

simply to offer a unique connection, and

give us the gift of your caring inspiration.

With the arrival of the cycle of salmon,

I receive your gift to open my chest, and

allow the color-filled world to nest–

around my heartfelt smile, if but only for a while.

And so, I must joyfully say without any delay–

Thank you, Mr. Two Trees, for spawning

curiosity and generosity

in my heart

to

swim

within.
